Schedule

Friday Evening

5:30pm - 6:30pm Registration
6:30pm - 6:45pm Opening Prayer/Welcome
6:45pm - 7:30pm Plenary Session
Bill McKeever: "Are 'compassion' and 'boldness' mutually exclusive terms?"
7:45pm - 8:45pm Breakout Sessions

Chip Thompson: "Watching God move in Ephraim" - Chip will be sharing some of the exciting things that are happening among the LDS people in the Manti/Ephraim area of Utah. He will also interview former "true believing Mormons" who are now trusting Christ. Come hear what it was that caused them to reconsider Mormonism.

Mike Bell: "Staying on Point - Jesus, Grace, and Seeking Truth" - Oftentimes conversations with LDS friends, relatives, and missionaries can lead to rabbit trails, dead ends, and peripheral issues that don't address what's really at stake when it comes to spiritual reality. This session will examine some "bottom line" issues and how to frame them.

Ron Huggins: "Those ‘Abominable’ Creeds" - Joseph Smith claimed that while experiencing his "First Vision" he was told that the creeds of Christendom were an "abomination" in God’s sight. Current Mormon leaders and apologists like to claim that they believe the Bible, but not the Creeds, thus attempting to drive a wedge between the Bible and historic Christianity. Professor Huggins will show how the creeds, far from contradicting the Bible, emerge naturally from it, and as such continue to stand as important witnesses for Biblical Christianity at precisely those points where Mormonism departs from it.

Saturday

8:00am - 8:45am Registration
8:45am - 9:00am Opening Prayer/Welcome
9:00am - 9:45am Plenary Session
Bill McKeever: "Achieving Forgiveness in an LDS context"
10:00am - 11:00am Breakout Sessions

Marv Cowan: "The Bible isn't enough?" - Christianity is based on the Bible, but Latter-day Saints believe that the Bible has been mistranslated and some books were lost so that it no longer contains God’s complete word. Because of this, Mormons believe more scripture is needed. They also claim to have three other books of scripture which are more reliable than the Bible. Does the evidence support those claims?

Cory Anderson: "Is Mormonism moving towards a Christian orthodoxy?" - Recent comments in books and speeches from some BYU professors have caused many Christians to assume that Mormonism is shedding its problematic doctrinal past and is embracing a more biblical perspective. In this workshop Pastor Anderson will examine the writings of some of these men to see if this is really true. Is this a time to be encouraged, or perhaps a time to be even more concerned?

Doris Hanson: "Lifting The Veil of Polygamy" — Doris will share clips from the recent "Lifting the Veil of Polygamy" DVD released by Living Hope Fellowship. She will also share some of her experiences of growing up in the Kingston polygamy group and explain the focus and work of "A Shield and Refuge Ministry" to polygamists. A brief update and explanation of the FLDS situation that occurred in Eldorado, Texas during April will follow with a short question and answer period to conclude the session
11:00am - 12:15pm Lunch (On your own)
12:15pm - 1:00pm Plenary Session
Sandra Tanner: "Joseph Smith’s role as 'prophet' in view of the King Follet Discourse"
1:15pm - 2:15pm Breakout Sessions

Ross Anderson: "Responding to the Book of Mormon" - The Book of Mormon occupies a central place in the belief and practices of Latter-day Saints. To engage LDS friends in formal discussion requires a working knowledge of the Book of Mormon, how it is used in LDS culture, and the arguments made for its status as an ancient scripture. This workshop will help you understand why Latter-day Saints revere the Book of Mormon, evaluate the claims made for the book, and develop a sensitive but confident response.

Bryan Hurlbutt: "Discerning the Wind: Responding to the 'Trump Card' of Mormon Personal Religious Experience": In an LDS culture personal experience is cherished as the authoritative means of obtaining spiritual truth. How do we deal with this very personal and precious issue with our Mormon neighbors without disavowing the reality of genuine Christian, personal, spiritual experience? In this presentation Bryan will assess the nature of Mormon "testimony", discuss a criteria for evaluating religious experience and propose a means of engaging this foundation of individual Mormon conviction.

Dennis and Rauni Higley: "Sharing your faith with a Latter-day Saint" - In this workshop Dennis and Rauni will offer advice on avoiding some of the usual pitfalls when talking with members of the LDS Church. At the same time they will share ministry tips that have worked well for them over the years.
